Any Hidden functions?
Tapping on the board with two fingers will bring on and off the quick control module which allows you to quickly change sound volumes, skins, and pause/resume/switch music loops. If you turn down the music volume to zero here, Doku allows external music to pass through so that you can listen to music from other Apps while playing Doku. Non-music sound effect will continue to operate.
Tapping on the board with three fingers during a session will toggle the distinctive marks on for the cells that contain the original cipher. This is to let you easily discern the moves you made when in need of backtracking your steps. The way the markings are applied differs from skin to skin.
What kind of unique social functions does Doku offer?
You can email your friend a Dokugram which includes not just the cipher you finished, but also the timed history of your moves for the session. You can also post it on your Facebook timeline. When your friend opens the dokugram on his iOS device (assuming that Doku was already installed), the session will start in the challenge mode in which he will be playing along with a ghost of yourself simulating a live duel. He may also choose to play it in a peaceful mode. In that case, only the final time will be compared with your own.
To send out Dokugram, look for the pistol buttons (fb indicates Facebook) that appears as part of the summary report whenever you finish a session.
Second, when you get stuck, and decide to resign, Doku offers a chance to tweet the board image with your progress up to that point. A perfect way to find who among your twitter followers are smart and loyal to you.
Third, on the bottom left corner of the Stats view, there are twitter/facebook buttons. When you mature beyond the novice level, these buttons allow you to brag about your Doku Index and speeds. Doku scoring system is not compromised by hefty and arbitrary bonus points. Therefore, the scores you share this way meaningfully indicate your stature in the global Doku community.
The way weapons work during the head-to-head duels benefit from advanced social skill and judgement. As one may continue attacks only if the opponent retaliate, players will eventually develop good feel for when to use it or not at all. The players decide whether each duel will play out amicably or violently.
What happens if the friend emails me back a dokugram that I had played already?
He may have aced it and would like to challenge you back to top it. If a dokugram contains your ID in its player history (it maintains up to 20 players), Doku mathematically transforms the puzzle in such a way to generate a new one for you, but with exactly the same level of difficulty. Working on it to improve upon both your earlier time and your friend's will be a meaningful and useful exercise.
I email the Dokugram, but the email is never sent or the recipient sees no attached Dokugram file?
Check the following: In the Settings app on your Home screen, go to Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->Mail->Default Account, the Default account should have been set to the one that can send out emails. Messages created outside of Mail uses this account to send in-app generated emails. Some email servers also put restrictions on attachment files. If you suspect it being the case, Apple's iCloud mail server would be a safer bet. If problem persists, please contact us with details.
Is there a way to make the moves I made distinguished from the original cipher?
Tap on the main board with three fingers. The cells that were part of the original cipher will assume a slightly different look, leaving your own moves recognizable. Tap 3-fingers again for normal viewing.
I am a D-17 level player. In a duel match with a random opponent, I will most likely be matched with a novice at the White level. Isn't this very unfair for both parties?
Doku uses what is called the group filtering based on the level of difficulty you indicated in its Main Control View. For version 1, it adopts an downward-inclusive criterion, meaning that you will be matched with someone who chose the level equal or lower than your choice. Dueling is more about speed than deep strategic thinking. Naturally, most duelists go for quick and easy matches finishable within a few minutes. In these matches, a D17 master may not necessarily be superior to a White-level master. In aiming to finish a White Doku within a minute, the fun should be mutual. In future versions of Doku, more refined approach may be possible. In the mean time, if you really prefer a duel on an hour-long D17 puzzle, try inviting a Game Center friend who is an equal match for you.
When I post a Dokugram or a stat to Facebook timeline, it keeps posting to my other Facebook account while I am logged into another account in the Facebook App. How do I log in and out of my Facebook account(s)?
(Note: this may apply only to iOS 5. In iOS 6, Apple integrated many Facebook functions. When Doku updates, the following issues may not apply any more. For up-to-date information on this issue, check here.)
Except for the first time Doku tries to interact with Facebook, you will rarely need to log in and out as long as you are logged in to your FB account through either the Facebook App or Safari on your device. If you switch among multiple Facebook accounts, however, things may get complicated.
Doku will try to communicate with the account you logged in originally from Doku or with the account that it successfully connected with the last time. But suppose you switched your FB account in the Facebook app since and want Doku to adopt the new account.
In that case, you may want to follow these steps:
1. This is a crucial step. Log out of all Facebook accounts in your Facebook App and Web browser on the device.
2. In Doku, tap on the Log Out of Facebook item that appears when you tap on the Nuts and Bolts button (see below). It will bring up the Facebook login view. Log out from old account, and then log in to the new one. This action will close the FB session created in Doku and clear all related cache data.
