The Memo [Blue level and above]

For puzzles in the upper levels of difficulty, most empty cells accommodate multiple candidate moves. The options narrow down as you make progress, but the harder a cipher is, the more candidates move you have all across the board and often keeping track of them all go beyond the capacity of our short term memory. The memo function allows a systematic approach to the logical elimination process. Some people seem to solve a Black or D17 level cipher just as easily without using Memo at all. If you are one of them, this section may not be for you.

The small, gray extra button in the control area responds to both single and double taps, and behaves differently depending on whether a cell is selected in the board or in the control. When nothing is selected, tapping (or double-tapping) on the gray button activates the memo mode.
